BMW has taken its passion for innovation beyond the road and onto the water with the launch of the BMW x SipaBoards electric stand-up paddleboard (SUP). Created in collaboration with Slovenian e-SUP pioneer SipaBoards, the partnership introduces a premium, self-inflating paddleboard that merges electric mobility, connectivity, and design excellence. The project marks BMW’s first electric product developed specifically for water sports, with design by BMW Group Designworks inspired by the futuristic aesthetic of the BMW Neue Klasse.
At the heart of the BMW x SipaBoards lies an integrated 300-watt electric motor that delivers smooth, emission-free propulsion and speeds of up to 7.5 km/h. The motor doubles as an automatic air pump, inflating the board in minutes before each session. Powered by swappable battery modules offering up to seven hours of use, the board allows riders to effortlessly glide through headwinds and currents with ease, bringing a new level of freedom and riding pleasure to paddleboarding.
The board’s advanced design features an X-woven drop-stitch core for stability and a user interface built into the carbon-fibre paddle – complete with Bluetooth connectivity and FREUDE Mode for added thrust, lighting, and haptic feedback. Riders can track performance, monitor battery life, and plan routes through the companion app. Safety is built in too, with an automatic motor shutoff system that activates if the paddle is dropped, ensuring full control in every situation.
Beyond its electric capabilities, the BMW x SipaBoards is a statement of lifestyle and design. Its intelligent mounting system allows easy attachment of accessories such as cameras, speakers, and coolboxes, while an exclusive BMW Lifestyle Accessory Capsule adds premium touches like an Insta360 X5 camera and BMW apparel. Available in three colours and built to carry two riders, the €3,990 BMW x SipaBoards offers a seamless blend of sport, sustainability, and electric innovation — redefining riding pleasure for a new element.
