Bold custom builds of the R 12 and R 18 steal the spotlight at BMW Motorrad Days 2025
BMW Motorrad turned heads at this year’s Motorrad Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with the debut of two striking custom bikes from the Bavarian Forest. Dubbed “The Speed Sisters,” the project showcases the creative talents of Ralf Eggl from WOIDWERK, who reimagined the R 12 and R 18 models with a shared spirit but distinct personalities. These sibling cruisers captivated onlookers with their unique blend of technical detail, design precision, and raw attitude, a tribute to craftsmanship and character.
The R 12, known as the “little sister,” was transformed into a nimble and edgy machine. With its bobber-style rear section, sportier riding posture, and custom touches like a leather-and-Alcantara seat and a CAD-designed tank cover, the bike embodies urban cool with a retro twist. A raised chassis and ceramic-coated exhaust deliver an engaging ride and aggressive stance. Subtle yet purposeful, the modifications pay homage to the R 12’s roots while pushing it firmly into modern custom territory.
Meanwhile, the R 18 received an equally bold overhaul. This “big sister” was elevated, literally and figuratively-with a reshaped tank, a floating seat, and a bespoke “Targa hoop” that redefine the bike’s proportions. Technical upgrades such as a high-performance radial braking system from the R 1300 GS and a raised chassis enhance its presence and performance. Every detail, from CNC-milled swingarm elements to in-house lighting mounts, reflects WOIDWERK’s mastery of the custom craft.
Both builds share a distinctive paint scheme inspired by the Bavarian Forest, ¾ white and ¼ green, a cheeky nod to the region’s long winters and short summers. From the seat stitching to the green-tinted fairing screens, this colour story weaves nature and heritage into each ride. Together, The Speed Sisters highlight what’s possible when local roots, technical precision, and the DNA of BMW Motorrad come together in harmony. For WOIDWERK and BMW Motorrad, this collaboration isn’t just customisation, it’s storytelling on two wheels.
